What is it exactly about the color blue that Phoenix metro builders like so much? The strange, mesmerizing quality of our sky? The soothing azure of somnolent waters that deserts generally lack?

Whatever the attraction, in the same vein as the much recollected Blue Building of Mesa (the Bank of America building) the East Valley Tribune is running an article entitled “Blue light special look for Tempe skyline” about another blue skein glowing on Tempe's skyline unto dusk.
The newest addition to Tempe’s skyline is complete — and decidedly blue. By day, passers-by see 12 stories of sapphire blue glass covering the office tower at Hayden Ferry Lakeside.

By night, it will be hard to miss a three-story tall light feature that will catch the eye of anybody crossing the Salt River to reach downtown Tempe.

The light was flicked on for the first time Thursday night as the project developer, Suncor, celebrated the building’s completion and the company’s 20th anniversary.

The LED devices illuminate a curved feature evocative of a ship’s mast and sail as part of the nautical theme of the Lakeside project.

On the subject of the Blue Building in Mesa, I found this fictional story about it by an ASU student about it. The story comes with photographs of the actual property. Although, the nighttime photo really doesn't show off the blueness of the building – which it is best known for.
