I spend every few days scanning blog searches for mentions of Mill Avenue and people who tag posts suggestively. But, I just realized, that I haven’t spent the time to enlighten anyone who reads my news and posts about the Ave about these other blogs.
The first that I found happens to be 100 South Mill Avenue the blog of Michael Monti, the current owner of Monti’s La Casa Vieja Steakhouse. La Casa Vieja is a fixture on the Ave at the far end—as the address would suggest—before it turns into the bridge and leaps over the fake lake. I’ve known that restaurant for years and it is the old habituation of the Hayden family. Yes, the actual Hayden’s after whom the city of Hayden’s Ferry—now Tempe—was named. His posts meander between old town Tempe historic commentary and information about the restaurant in general.
Next is There’s Something Happening Here, a blog which I only found because of Monti’s blog. The posts that appear there run a wide gambit from across Tempe, but recent things have focused a good deal on the Ave and goings on which I too focus often on: the general gentrification and doom of authenticity of the region. Something that amuses me somewhat is the header image which reads “Ceterpoint Condominiums” and displays condos on fire, an excellent display of the biting criticism that I also hold for the current state of developers pouring greed and shortsightedness down on my beloved strip.
Amazingly, I don’t know many others who spend much time, if any, on the Ave itself. There are certainly blogs that range around Phoenix and Tempe, but these two currently hold my attention more often than most of the others.
