What could you do with networking speeds 100 times faster than they currently are?

Google is taking applications from communities that want to find out. They’re offering to install free high speed fiber in at least one community in America. Cities have to compete with each other to get it.

Tempe wants that fiber. We want it for our 175,000 residents, for our 175,000 workers, for our 4 million visitors who travel here annually for fun and business and for our 200,000 college students. Why do we want it? Tempe, Arizona is known for innovation. We think that the combined brain power of all these people, with this fiber, can change the world. We’ve already done so much.

You can help convince Google that Tempe is the best place to showcase their fiber. Google is now trying to determine the Most Deserving City for Google Fiber. They want the most reactive, effort making and responsive city come out on top and win this Challenge and they have chosen probably the best and simplest method for deciding the winner. Open Polling.

Google is hosting an web based 30 day Polling for the title of “Most Deserving City for Google Fiber”. From their own analysis, they have shortlisted 21 U.S. cities that have nominated themselves for “Google Fiber” network and have also been making visible efforts to bring “Google Fiber” home. Out of hundreds of cities, TEMPE MADE THIS LIST OF 21 CITIES!

Rules for Voting:

The voting will remain LIVE for 30 days from now. That is, the final voting results will be compiled and announced on May 6, 2010, a.k.a the Judgement Day.
Every individual can cast a vote once per day. That is, you can keep supporting your city for all 30 days but not multiple times a day.

If you would like to have that high speed network here in Tempe, then you need to take just a few simple steps to make it happen:

1) BOOKMARK THE VOTING SITE AND VOTE DAILY http://www.googlefiber.com/fiber-optics/

2) Tell your friends and followers. Use email, twitter, facebook any method of communication but ask people to participate!

3) Take a look at our video on our website http://tempe.gov/googlefiber. Let’s make sure Google understands how passionate we are about this!

Thanks!
